Slide the lock box downward and away from the protruding end of the t handle retaining screw. Turn the handle so it s vertical in the locked position.

Step 3 remove the t handle retaining screws from the outside of the door with a phillips screwdriver. Look inside the doorknob hole and locate the latching mechanism. The knob on the other side of the door is no longer attached either so it will be loose and eventually will fall off. This will cause the knob on your side of the door to come off. Close the garage door. Slide the lock box off the square shaft protruding through the garage door from the t handle. Move to the inside of the garage.

The garage door wire cable can come off of the drum pulley spool which can be quite frustrating to repair. Using an awl or small screwdriver push the button in all the way and at the same time pull off the handle. Unscrew the two screws if you re on that side of the door using a cross tip screwdriver. The locking mechanism on the house door handle might fail to properly open and latch the door.

Remove the ends of the stranded cable from each lock mechanism at the outer edges of the garage door. Tighten a loose door handle photo 1.
